Professor Ravish Katira is a Senior NHS Consultant Cardiologist at Whiston Hospital, part of St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where he serves as the Clinical Lead for Heart Failure Services. In addition to his clinical role, he holds an honorary academic appointment as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, reflecting his commitment to education and research in cardiovascular medicine.

Professor Katira graduated with MBBS (Honours) from Meerut University in India, followed by MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology), qualifying as a Consultant Cardiologist. His advanced training provided a strong foundation in managing complex cardiac conditions. After relocating to the United Kingdom in 1996, he undertook further specialist training and gained extensive experience in coronary angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and advanced cardiac device therapy, including complex bi-ventricular pacemakers.

Since his appointment as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2005, Professor Katira has developed a broad clinical practice encompassing the diagnosis and management of angina, heart failure, hypertension, palpitations, and syncope (fainting). His expertise spans both acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, and he is widely recognized for his patient-centred approach and dedication to improving outcomes in heart failure care.

A strong advocate for preventative cardiology, Professor Katira has pioneered initiatives aimed at reducing cardiovascular risk and promoting heart health. He regularly runs “Heart Wise” clinics, offering tailored advice on lifestyle modification, risk factor management, and early intervention strategies to prevent the progression of heart disease.

Professor Katira is also an accomplished academic and researcher. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributing more than 75 original research papers to the field of cardiology. His scholarly work includes co-authoring a cardiology textbook and writing chapters for other authoritative reference books. His research interests focus on heart failure, device therapy, and strategies for improving patient care and outcomes.

Through his combined roles as clinician, educator, and researcher, Professor Katira continues to make a significant impact on the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.
